We had an awesome day with Claudio our driver. He collected us promptly and took care to find out what we expected to get from our trip and made sure that he exceeded these expectations. He called ahead to book a trusted private tour guide who was waiting for us on our arrival in Pompeii - he was fantastic! And then we drove on to Sorrento, stopping at various places on the Amalfie Coast to take photographs and then we had a late lunch in Il Positano, before returning to Rome. Travelling with two young daughters, it was a long day trip, but memorable - and we all thought it was our best day of our week-long holiday to Rome.

FLO-01 CHIANTI COUNTRYSIDE

With your car and driver today we will journey to the beautiful countryside of the Chianti region following the Chianti Wine Road that winds between olive groves and vineyards. After a short ride we will reach the town of Greve in Chianti named after the river that runs through it. Greve in Chianti is the birthplace of the famous Tuscan explorer Giovanni da Verrazzano, the Tuscan who discovered the New York Harbor and in fact has a bridge there named after him. There is a statue of Giovanni da Verrazzano here in the Piazza Matteotti, a gently sloping square which is the hub of life in Greve. Around this square under the graceful porticoes you will see many local shops and wine stores. The famous butcher shop Falorni is here and has been for 500 years! At Falorniís you will be welcome to taste free samples of much of their local productions, including their delicious boar salami and prosciutto. If you like after your visit to Greve, your driver will bring you to the imposing Castle of Verrazzano, which is located on a hilltop between Siena and Florence right in the heart of the Chianti Classico wine producing area. First and Etruscan village and later a Roman one, the castle became the property of the Verrazzano family in the 12th century.

Today we will travel along the Chianti Wine Road, crossing amazing landscapes of rolling hills covered with vineyards, olive groves and scattered villages. After a short ride we will reach the town of Greve in Chianti named after the river that runs through it. Greve in Chianti is the birthplace of the famous explorer Giovanni da Verrazzano, renowned as the first European since the Norse expeditions to North America around AD 1000 to explore the Atlantic coast of North America. There is a statue of Giovanni da Verrazzano in Piazza Matteotti, a gently sloping square and the social hub of Greve. Graceful porticoes all around shelter shops and wine stores that offer visitors a taste of the local delicacies. The famous butcher shop Falorni has been there for 500 years and welcomes its visitors with free samples of much of their local productions, including their delicious boar salami and prosciutto.

After your visit to Greve, your driver could take you to the imposing Castle of Verrazzano, which is located on a hilltop between Siena and Florence right in the heart of the Chianti region. Perched on a mountain spur high above the River Greve, the castle is surrounded by vineyards and olive groves, and its crenellated medieval tower is just visible above a cluster of cypresses. If you like, you can book a guided tour of the Castle, its gardens and wine cellars and include a light lunch with salamis, boar sausages, prosciutto, cheese and wine.

After your stop at the Castle of Verrazzano, the tour will continue with a scenic drive through the Tuscan countryside reaching Panzano in Chianti and Castellina in Chianti where another wine tasting opportunity is available at the renowned Rocca delle Macie winery. Along the way you will have a chance to see the medieval fortress of Monteriggioni. Dating back to the dawn of the 13th century, the castle has preserved an intact structure with 14 watchtowers and impressive walls. Every July, the village goes back in time to the Middle Ages for the Medieval Festival of Montereggioni. The streets fill up with craftsmen, cavaliers and people in costumes, creating a really enchanting atmosphere.

Kindly take note that tickets, lunch and wine tasting are not included in the rate.
